Jaswant Dhaliwal, Group Quality Assurance Director for ABM UK, says that it’s their customers’ needs that are the main driving force behind gaining and securing their certifications.

“Our prime objective was to obtain ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and OHSAS 18001 certification to prove to our customers that we are capable of managing their portfolios,” says Jaswant.

“The audit and surveillance process ensure that we stay focused on our standards of service delivery as well as complying with international standards.”

As well as improving their customers’ experience, the management systems have also had a positive effect internally. Jaswant explains:

“WE ARE NOW ABLE TO MEASURE, ANALYSE AND IMPROVE OUR PROCESSES AND PROCEDURES WHICH HAS IMPROVED OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY AND COST SAVING.”

ABM secured the help of an external consultant when implementing their management systems. As Jaswant says:

“HAVING THE RIGHT CONSULTANT IN PLACE PROVED TO BE A MAJOR ASSET IN ENSURING OUR SYSTEMS WERE FIT FOR PURPOSE AND EASY TO USE. MOREOVER, CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT IS CENTRAL TO THE ABM PHILOSOPHY. OVER THE YEARS, THESE SYSTEMS HAVE BEEN MODIFIED TO MAXIMISE EFFICIENCY AND PRODUCTIVITY.”

It was not a straightforward decision when it came to choosing a certification body. They spoke with multiple organisations but “we found ISOQAR the easiest to deal with,” says Jaswant. “They really understood what we were looking to achieve, and we were impressed with their professionalism.”
