Armed Forces Day is a moment to reflect, show gratitude, and recognise the extraordinary contributions of those who have served in the military. At ISOQAR, we are proud to count many veterans among our team, whose skills, values, and experiences continue to make a lasting impact in the workplace.
This year, we shine a light on four of our remarkable colleagues: Alan Brewer, Keith Gemmel, Simon Giles, and Meg Vella, and the journeys that shaped them.
Alan Brewer
Alan Brewer dedicated 25 years to the Royal Logistic Corps as an Armed Forces Chef, climbing the ranks to Warrant Officer Class 1. Inspired by his father’s service, Alan found direction and pride in his military career, which instilled in him unwavering standards, practical leadership, and the courage to speak up when it matters most.
“Never settle for anything less than the highest standards, from yourself or others. And if something feels wrong, speak up.”
These values continue to guide Alan at ISOQAR, where his leadership and commitment to excellence make a difference every day.
Keith Gemmel
For over 22 years, Keith Gemmel served in the British Army’s REME, transitioning from armoured vehicle mechanic to Defence Accident Investigator. Growing up in a military family, Keith always knew service would be part of his life – but his journey taught him more than technical skills.
“Failure isn’t a reason to blame – it’s a chance to learn. That mindset helps us improve people, systems, and outcomes.”
Keith’s dedication to improvement and his ability to lead with integrity remain central to his role with ISOQAR, where he helps businesses uphold the highest standards.
Simon Giles
With 19 years in the British Army, including roles as a Recovery Mechanic, Workshop Manager, and Fleet Manager, Simon knows the true strength of teamwork and trust.
“You don’t have to be best mates, but when a team looks out for each other, you can achieve incredible things.”
The tight-knit bond of military teams shaped Simon’s approach to leadership in civilian life, where he fosters collaboration and shared success.
Meg Vella
As a Network Engineer with 15 years of Armed Forces service, Meg Vella developed not only technical expertise but also resilience, discipline, and adaptability. All traits that define her approach to every challenge.
“Always be prepared, but stay adaptable. Plans change. Flexibility keeps you moving forward.”
Today, Meg continues to apply these lessons at ISOQAR, supporting businesses to navigate complexity and maintain high standards under pressure.
The stories of Alan, Keith, Simon, and Meg are diverse, yet they share a common thread – service, leadership, and the ability to adapt and thrive in any environment. These are the qualities that strengthen not only our armed forces but also the businesses and communities our veterans go on to support.
On this Armed Forces Day, we honour their service and the sacrifices made by countless individuals and families across the defence community.
