PSL are a print management company providing support and advice around print production and print related communication. PSL have been in business for 34 years, and their initial objectives were to grow the business and remain profitable. More recently the health and well-being of the staff, carbon footprint and social value offering are important considerations. Based in Preston in the North West, PSL employ 55 staff who are split across two sites on the same business park.
Brian Eyre – Director & Owner told us: PSL provides Print Management and Marketing services to both public and private sector organisations. Our reputation is founded on delivering savings and innovation, along with superior service levels tailored to meet customer needs. We supply organisations across many industry sectors, including automotive, finance, construction, retail and leisure. Public bodies include the NHS, Police Forces, Housing and Local Authorities. Our core services include print procurement, direct mail, design, storage/logistics & Web-2-Print.
We initially implemented our Quality Management System (ISO 9001) and subsequently achieved certification to help document the management of the company in 2012. However, more recently, there has been a commercial imperative to provide evidence of the efficient running of the business both financially and environmentally (ISO 14001) and from a health & safety (ISO 45001), information security (ISO 27001) and business continuity (ISO 22301) perspective. Our original provider did not offer a full range of accreditations so after some market research, we chose Alcumus ISOQAR based on their comprehensive offerings and reasonable pricing structure.
PSL engaged with two external consultants when implementing our management system. We transformed our QMS into a fully integrated management system incorporating all five standards. Continuous improvement and development to our system over the last few years has driven even greater efficiencies in our business and provided wider framework opportunities when tendering for new business.
The main commercial benefits, for PSL, are to access business opportunities that would otherwise not be available to the company. For example, to be awarded a place on several high-profile frameworks such as the Crown Commercial Services (CCS) and Health Trust Europe, it has been a mandatory requirement to have a diverse range of ISO certifications.
Our interaction with Alcumus ISOQAR since 2017 has been a positive experience, with professional auditors and support staff, available when required. We would have no hesitation in recommending them to potential future clients and our own supply chain who have ISO standards. We look forward to working together in the years ahead.
During the Covid-19 Pandemic, having the ISO 22301 certification since 2017 (an internationally recognised continuity program), PSL were able to maximise the companyβs resilience by initiating our effective Business Continuity Plan. The standard helped ensure that we had a recovery system in place, which allowed us to maintain an efficient service to our customers and our supply chain throughout. Having ISO 22301 and ISO 27001 certifications, also allows us to demonstrate that PSL have been independently verified by Alcumus ISOQAR, who are one of the most recognised and respected UKAS accredited certification bodies. This offers a competitive advantage over other businesses without the certification, says Sue Parkinson, Compliance Manager at PSL Print Management Ltd.
Kevin Groom, Senior Lead Auditor for Alcumus ISOQAR added; PSL Print Management had the foresight, a number of years ago, to add ISO22301 to their existing integrated management system which includes ISO27001, ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001. ISO22301 has enabled this organisation to successfully qualify to bid for new opportunities within certain client sectors, where this is a stipulation, but more importantly, when the coronavirus pandemic hit, it enabled the organisation to respond to the government requirements whilst continuing to successfully provide its contracted services to existing customers and new customers alike. ISO22301 has been both a business enabler and has provided a framework to assess the business impact of potential threats, enabling the organisation to budget strategically and put systems in place to deal with unexpected, potentially service-affecting incidents, whilst continuing to provide its services to customers.
