What will you be learning?

Our highly experienced tutors will take learners through structured sessions and case-based exercise, preparing delegates to plan, conduct, and report GHG verification and validation engagements in a manner consistent with international standards.

The course includes practical exposure to common sector risks, evidence-gathering strategies, site visit planning, and the preparation of verification/validation statements. Delegates will leave with a clear understanding of impartiality, materiality, levels of assurance, and stakeholder expectations in the context of credible climate assurance.

Recommended prior knowledge:

  • Delegates should have a solid working knowledge of GHG accounting principles and ISO 14064-1 and 14064-2, ideally gained through practice or prior training.
  • Experience in auditing, assurance, or technical assessments in the environmental or sustainability field is strongly recommended.
  • This course assumes familiarity with GHG related ISO standards and will build on existing understanding with advanced verification/validation techniques.

  • Explain the principles and structure of ISO 14064-3, ISO 14065 and ISO/IEC 17029 and how they interrelate.
  • Conduct pre-engagement activities for verification and validation, including risk assessments, assurance level selection, and scope definition.
  • Apply the requirements of ISO 14064-3 to carry out effective GHG verification and validation.
  • Identify and assess material misstatements and nonconformities within GHG inventories and project statements.
  • Plan and conduct site visits, including data trail reviews and sampling activities.
  • Use strategic analysis to inform verification and validation planning.
  • Prepare professional verification and validation opinions and reports in line with ISO/IEC 17029 and ISO 14065.
  • Understand the accreditation requirements for validation/verification bodies and how to maintain impartiality and credibility.
  • Navigate and apply principles of evidence sufficiency, conservativeness and fair presentation .
  • Develop robust plans for evidence gathering and reporting, tailored to different GHG programme contexts.

Delegates must pass a final assessment to complete the course successfully.
